The lieder with guitar in this collection come from a series of journals published in Braunschweig, Germany during the early nineteenth century under the name Arion and brought together in a bound volume, a copy of which is in the collection of Matanya Ophee. It contains not only lieder by well-known German composers of the day, but also popular songs by French and Italian composers, as well as arrangements of poular operatic arias and duets, and numerous songs of anonymous writers.
