"Northern Lights" is a progressive series of repertoire by Canadian composers from coast to coast. This collection of 33 pieces is designed for the preparatory piano student and is progressive in nature. To facilitate the learning process, fingerings and measure numbers have been included. Metronome markings are suggested tempi. Students will enjoy seeing photos of the composers included with the biographies as well as program notes and glossaries. This collection is useful as a resource for a variety of functions and levels; Canadian content for festivals, recitals, exams, sight reading, quick study and supplemental material.
The compositions are written in a wide variety of moods and styles and range from the majestic and traditional King Tiger to the gentle Kitty on the Keys, from the gigantic Hippo to the tinyButterfly. In the selection process, consideration was given to style, skill level, variety of metre, tonality and pedagogical issues. The result is a delightful assortment of pieces for the 21st century student by Canadian composers who inspire the imagination of the performer.
