A collection of folk music, games, and activities to develop rhythmic, melodic, vocal, motor, social, and improvisational skills. All songs are traditional, with the exception of Up Down (by Grace Nash). Includes information on the notation of the songs and suggested grade levels. Notations are transcriptions of the songs as Jill originally sang them and attempt to show more clearly the phrasing and style used. The notations show the rhythmic anticipations, hesitations, and "vocal gestures" (slides, scoops, etc.) used by the singer. Each song gives the origin, lyrics and melody line (in stick notation), formation and actions (when appropriate), abstract, reading pieces, and pedagogic use. The included CD features Jill singing, sometimes with accompaniment on dulcimer, autoharp, guitar, or banjo.
