This very well could be your students' first ragtime piece! Written in Middle C position with the melody divided between the hands, the simple syncopation is easy to count. The optional duet part has the characteristic accompaniment style found in ragtime music. Performed either as a solo or a duet, this piece will be a fun addition to students' repertoire. Elementary piano solo with optional teacher duet from Peter Jancewicz is a pianist, composer, writer and teacher. He holds a Masters Degree in piano performance from McGill University and a Doctor of Music Degree from the University of Alberta. Teachers have included Kenneth Woodman, Charles Reiner, Charles Foreman and Helmut Brauss. As a result of a RSI to his hands, he was forced to stop performing in 1997. During his recovery, he turned to composing and writing on musical topics. His piano music, including the "Notebook for Saint Nicholas", is published by the Alfred Publishing Company. He is a regular contributor to Clavier, and his articles have appeared in various newsletters across Canada.
